Standard mount fans are exactly what they sound like; they are the industry standard. While these fans vary in styles, blade quantity, pitch and finishes, they have commonalities.

The standard mount fans come stocked with a 3 to 5 inch downrod, but can be replaced with longer downrods or a hugger/flushmount adapter, in order to make it shorter or longer, depending on your needs and ceiling heights.
The number of fan blades can vary in quantities, from your classic 5-blade to a contemporary-but-highly-effective 2-blade fan. Despite what you may think, the more blades on a fan does NOT improve airflow; the opposite is true, in fact. The fewer blades on a ceiling fan, the more air is moved. The blade spans on your standard mount ceiling fan can range from a small 29-inch to a large 54-inch, and are recommended for use in specific sized rooms.
The following list provides room dimensions, and the fan size that is recommended for those areas:
- Up to 75 sq. ft; 29-inch to 36-inch fan
- 76-144 sq. ft; 36-inch to 42-inch fan
- 144-225 sq. ft; 44-inch fan
- 225-400 sq. ft; 50-inch to 54-inch fan
There are a wide variety of different style fans to choose from at Fan Diego, ranging from the traditional to the ultra-modern. Some models have no lights, while others come with uplights, downlights or both. Models such as the Minka-Aire Contemporary Gyro are built with two separate fans, which are joined together by arms that attach at the light source. If Tuscan sophistication is what you’re looking for, then the Minka-Aire Napoli II may have the refined details and exceptional finish that you want. If you want a fan with a classic look, then perhaps the belt-driven Fanimation Brewmaster Long-Neck is exactly what you’re looking for.
With dozens of different styles, and a large selection of finishes to choose from, it shouldn’t be hard to find the standard mount fan to match your home’s décor, satisfy the forward-thinking attitude which has pushed you to go "green”, or provide an unconventional route in which to achieve that ultra- modernist look for your home.
